Wishing you a Good and Blessed Walpurgisnacht!
Current Music: "Nacht" - Richard Strauss (Eine Alpensinfonie)

Spring has finally sprung.  Yes, even here in New England! (or at least it so seems).  Time to come out of winter hibernation.  I hope everyone enjoyed their "Ewe's Milk" (what would be the equivalent Urglaawe name?) and Ostara holidays.

Walpurgisnacht is fast approaching.  As Walpurgisnacht is sacred to Fraa Holle, and Fraa Holle is an especial patron of der Urglaawe, I see this holy time as one of the most sacred of the year.  My own observance of Walpurgisnacht is still in the planning stages.  But I am happy to note I will not have to work the following day, so I hope to do something a little extra special this year.  I'll try to remember to post an update here, but for now I wanted to be sure to wish everyone a very blessed and holy Walpurgisnacht!

Heel Fraa Holle!

Virtue is an important and highly valued concept throughout all of Heathenry.  Various lists of virtues are popular among the many Heathen traditions.  The familiar Nine Noble Virtues was the first such list to appear, probably twenty or so years ago.  This list of virtues is still quite popular and is used especially among many Asatru (Icelandic, Norse usw.) focused groups.  Another popular list is The Twelve Ǽþeling Þews which first appeared in the work "Beyond Good and Evil" maybe ten years ago (?).  This list is generally popular among Anglo-Saxon focused Heathens.  There are others, as well.

I thought perhaps a good way to begin things here in this community would be with a posting of one possible list of virtues for die Urglaawer.  I believe this list was compiled by Bruder Rob Lusch of Die Urglaawisch Sippschaft vum Distlefink.  I'm borrowing it here just as it appeared on the Hexenkunst Yahoo! Group.

Viele Griesse un Heele!

This community is for those who practice, or who have an interest in der Urglaawe, the Heathen custom of the Pennsylvania German Volk.  Worship of the Germanic Gods, Braucherei, Hexerei, herbalism, healing techniques, food, traditional crafts and folklore of the Pennsylvania Germans are all "on topic" for discussion in this community, as are general news items and news and events from the larger Heathen community that my be of interest here.  Posts in Deitsch are welcome, and encouraged.  However, an English translation would be appreciated, especially for longer posts (perhaps behind an LJ cut?).

I want this to be our community, not mine.  Most of all, I hope this humble LJ presence might in its own small way encourage interest in, and the advancement of der Urglaawe.
